1. Overview
charactr, inc. ("charactr") respects the intellectual property rights of others. We respond to clear and complete notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"), 17 U.S.C. § 512.
This policy explains how to submit a takedown notice, how to submit a counter-notice, and how we handle repeat infringers.
2. Designated Agent
DMCA notices must be submitted to our designated agent:
Attn: DMCA Agent
415 Mission Street, 37th Floor
San Francisco, CA 94105
United States
Our agent is registered with the US Copyright Office. Submitting a notice to any other address will delay processing.
3. Takedown Notice Requirements
A valid takedown notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple works are covered by a single notice, a representative list of such works.
- Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and that is to be removed, with information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate the material (URLs, screenshots, in-app content IDs).
- Contact information for the complaining party: full legal name, address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that the complaining party is the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Notices that are incomplete or obviously invalid may be rejected without action. Submitting a materially false notice may expose you to liability for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).
4. How to Submit a Notice
Submit your notice using one of the following methods:
- Email: support@character.app (preferred — faster processing).
- Mail: DMCA Designated Agent, charactr, inc., Attn: DMCA Agent, 415 Mission Street, 37th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105, United States.

5. Our Response to a Valid Notice
If we receive a valid DMCA notice, we will:
- remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing material;
- notify the user who posted or generated the material, providing them a copy of the notice and explaining the counter-notice process;
- record the event for our repeat-infringer tracking.
6. Counter-Notice
If you believe your content was removed or disabled in error, you may submit a counter-notice. To be valid under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g), a counter-notice must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and the location at which it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and telephone number.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if outside the US, any judicial district in whichcharactr, inc. may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original notice or their agent.
Send counter-notices to support@character.app or to our designated agent by mail. We will forward valid counter-notices to the original complainant. If the complainant does not file a lawsuit seeking a court order against you within 10–14 business days, we will restore the removed material.
7. Repeat Infringer Policy
We track confirmed DMCA strikes against each account. Our policy:
- Strike 1: warning and content removal.
- Strike 2: 30-day account suspension.
- Strike 3: permanent account termination.
Successful counter-notices do not count as strikes. Bad-faith or retracted notices do not count as strikes against the content creator.
8. Non-Copyright Disputes
The DMCA applies only to copyright claims. For trademark, right of publicity, defamation, privacy, or other non-copyright claims, email support@character.app with details.
